When Rory moves to London, he takes exactly one bag. He fills it with the clothes he needs and a copy of his favorite book. The rest of it—fuck the rest of it. It’s not worth anything anyway. London’s loud and busy and it stays in one place forever. There are people everywhere, all the time, and when Rory looks up he can’t even see the stars. He takes a job in a clinic and relearns what it means to have blood on his hands that isn’t somehow his fault. There’s a doctor there, John Watson, the only one Rory really likes; maybe it’s because there’s something old and sad in his eyes, something Rory recognizes all too well. John’s flatmate pops by one day to herd him off to some crime scene and even though Rory’s heard stories about the elusive Sherlock Holmes, he isn’t quite prepared for the man himself. The constant movement, the frenetic energy. Dark hair and light eyes. No, Rory isn’t prepared at all. At night, Rory thinks about the Doctor and Amy, about Amy and the Doctor, about the eons and ions of space all around them. He’s been in London six months, but for them it could be minutes. It could be years. It could be lifetimes.
