usually unpopular opinion puffin pisses me off but this is so important

yes this

ALL OF THIS

Human decency is the ability to see others as, well, human. I don’t give a shit why or how people are on wellfare. I don’t give a shit if they are grifters (statistically they are not). I don’t give a shit if they are addicts or recovering addicts, if they are poor and working 3 jobs or poor and working no jobs, if they are disabled in some capacity, I just don’t give a flying fuck. I give a flying fuck if that person is cold, or hungry, though, because that person is still a fucking person, regardless of all circumstances. And I have this weird idea that people deserve dignity and respect and I dunno, being seen and treated as human beings.

Empathy and compassion. Social conservatives should try it sometime.

When Republicans appointed Pablo Pantoja to State Director of Florida Hispanic Outreach for the Republican National Committee, they hoped he would be able to bridge the sizable gap that only expanded during the 2012 elections, when the state’s 4.7 million Hispanic voters supported Barack Obama over Mitt Romney by a 20 percent margin.

But after months of inaction by Congressional Republicans on comprehensive immigration reform and stiff resistance by Republican-leaning groups like the Heritage Foundation, Pantoja has had enough; on Monday, he announced via email that he was leaving the party and registering as a Democrat:

Friend,

Yes, I have changed my political affiliation to the Democratic Party.

It doesn’t take much to see the culture of intolerance surrounding the Republican Party today. I have wondered before about the seemingly harsh undertones about immigrants and others. Look no further; a well-known organization recently confirms the intolerance of that which seems different or strange to them.

Pantoja goes on to specifically cite last week’s revelation — that an author of Heritage’s false report on the cost of the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill wrote a dissertation in which he suggested that Hispanics are at a permanent disadvantage because they have lower IQs — as the final straw in his political evolution.

haha i was just reading this and cackling

beautiful

I’ve been seeing that Heritage propaganda reported as fact in US newspapers. Will they report this? Doubtful.

omg you can’t just ask people why they’re ignorant

^THAT. THAT IS THE COMMENT OF THE YEAR.

Because the right to have an abortion and being forced by your government to finance the irresponsibility of others are two completely separate issues.

And you just assume that people are being irresponsible and penciling in their abortions right after their manis and pedis.
In Canada, we have this wonderful thing called Universal Healthcare. Perks include not having to avoid going to the doctor for life-saving, preventable care because you simply can’t afford it. It also means that if you have a heart attack, that you don’t have to worry about your insurance company screwing you with the bill and saying “sorry, since you had a paper cut when you were 7, you had a pre-existing condition and therefore we won’t cover you”.
Also, if you’re going to claim fiscal responsibility for your oppositional stance, then I suggest you check out how much it costs for prenatal health care and labour/delivery versus how much it costs for an abortion. Way more expensive to carry to term, but don’t let facts get in your way.
Now since we have this wonderful, magical thing known as Universal Healthcare we can also support people who do choose to carry to term. People who would otherwise not be able to afford prenatal care and labour/delivery, can now carry the pregnancy to term since they don’t have to worry about going into debt while simultaneously trying to provide for a new baby.
So stfu, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

“I would not say that the battle is over, but that some monster of American history, some wraith, some awful Power went into battle last night, and is presently limping away mortally wounded. The beast-handlers know this. I think it’s broadcast in Bill O’Reilly’s open racism, in Karl Rove’s flight into lunacy. It is slowly dawning on them: This isn’t 1968. The hippies are punching back.”

They spend like six minutes beating each other off about how could R.Money have possibly lost when he’s spent his entire life fellating ~THE BUSINESS SECTOR~  while stock footage of GOP events/Klan rallies rolls, but let me just make the obvious argument they aren’t:

CORPORATIONS AREN’T PEOPLE, MY FRIEND

There. Five words. Done.

“People will look back and say that the American social welfare state had three primary architects—Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, and Barack Obama.”

so you think romney’s son buying voting machines in ohio isn’t going to make any impact on the election, right? WRONG. according to at least one person in columbus, ohio on the daily beast’s voter irregularity widget, machines with votes cast for obama are reporting as votes cast for romney. this is, in joe biden’s words, “a big fucking deal.”
spread this shit like wildfire.

how bout if we spread truth like wildfire instead? real quick, the company connected to troglodyte tagg doesn’t have any machines in columbus so it doesn’t have anything to do with this report, and the machines that are connected to his company are optical scanners like scantrons for paper ballots, not machines you cast your vote on. check your facts, y’all.
But more importantly: Everybody knows what to do if you or a poll worker or your voting machine fucks up, right?
Print out a list of the requirements for your state before you go: what the state has the right to require of you, and what your rights are in certain situations. 866ourvote.org has a wealth of info—if they have a VOTER CHECKLIST for your state, that is probably your best bet!
Print or write out a list of who/what you want to vote for so you don’t get confused in the polling place! You’re allowed to carry in pretty much anything you want, as long as you don’t interfere with the running of the place.
MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY LINE OF YOUR SUMMARY BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR VOTE. DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR VOTE IF SOMETHING DOESN’T MATCH UP WITH WHAT YOU WANTED TO PUT IN. A lot of errors are USER ERROR. Don’t be one of those embarrassed Palm Beach County retirees who couldn’t figure out which side of the butterfly ballot to punch!
GET A POLL WORKER. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BOOTH/MACHINE. MAKE THEM COME TO YOU. It’s their responsibility to help you if there is a problem with your ballot. Don’t let them tell you it isn’t.
Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE if you have or witness any problems. Call your local media. Call the ACLU. Call the police (non-emergency numbers only). (Just good manners is being aware of people in line around you. The people who have the most trouble being allowed to vote are: elderly, people of color, people with foreign accents. If you see someone interfering with another citizen’s right to vote, CALL 1-866-OUR-VOTE)
Get out your phone and take pictures of poll workers, the polling place, any partisan challengers or election monitors, the machine, your physical ballot or touch screen, anything you can to document what’s gone wrong with your vote.
