When asked by The Barna Group what words or phrases best describe Christianity, the top response among Americans ages 16-29 was “antihomosexual.” For a staggering 91 percent of non-Christians, this was the first word that came to their mind when asked about the Christian faith. The same was true for 80 percent of young churchgoers. (The next most common negative images? : “judgmental,” “hypocritical,” and “too involved in politics.”)

Later research, documented in Kinnaman’s You Lost Me, reveals that one of the top reasons 59 percent of young adults with a Christian background have left the church is because they perceive the church to be too exclusive, particularly regarding their LGBT friends. Eight million twenty-somethings have left the church, and this is one reason why.

Planned Parenthood is on Tumblr!

barackobama:

plannedparenthood:

Planned Parenthood is excited to be launching our new Tumblr that’s all about sexual and reproductive health – bodies, birth control, relationship issues, “is it normal for this to do this?” type things. In the coming weeks and months we’ll be sharing what we know, answering questions, and just… tumblring.

We hope you like it! And we hope it helps.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

omg wow that is the best reblog i've ever seen

This is the one millionth photo taken from onboard the ISS

When the first component of the International Space Station was launched in 1998, it was the beginning of something incredible. The ISS is humanity’s castle in the sky. The largest spacecraft ever built, it is a multipurpose facility that is as well-suited for scientific research as it is for education and outreach, and is one of the most brilliant examples of international scientific collaboration in human history.
According to NASA, the photo you see up top is believed to be the one-millionth still image recorded by an ISS crew member [Click here for the gorgeous hi-res version]. This particular photo — which was uploaded earlier this afternoon over on NASA’s 2Explore photostream — was captured on March 7 by a member of the Expedition 30 crew from about 240 miles above the southeastern Tasman Sea. Scotts Miracle-Gro pleads guilty to selling poison-coated bird foodLawn and garden behemoth Scotts Miracle-Gro pleads guilty in one of the most mind-numbingly idiotic cases of pesticide misuse in recent memory: Knowingly selling birdseed laced with wildlife-killing insecticides.

But we don’t need regulation ever, right? The market can just regulate itself, right? We can totally trust non-accountable, profit driven corporations to do the right thing, of course.

Of course! Who needs a government. People (read: corporations) are capable of taking care of themselves.

A 21 year old woman and her mother drove three hours to come to their appointment for an abortion. They were surprised to find the clinic a ‘nice’ place with friendly, personable staff. While going over contraceptive options, they shared that they were Pro-Life and disagreed with abortion, but that the patient could not afford to raise a child right now. Also, she wouldn’t need contraception since she wasn’t going to have sex until she got married, because of her religious beliefs. Rather than argue with them, I saw this as an opportunity for dialogue, and in the end, my hope was that I had planted a ‘healing seed’ to help resolve the conflict between their beliefs and their realities.

Physician, Washington State  from “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion”

Oh goodness. There’s a lot of “WTF” moments in this article. A ton.

(via maidofastolat)

This is a very important article to read, I highly recommend it.

(via prochoicegeneration)

Important thing to remember: “pro-life” people get abortions too. Happens all the time.

The Lost Party

If either Romney or Santorum gains the nomination and then falls before Obama, flubbing an election that just months ago seemed eminently winnable, it will unleash a GOP apocalypse on November 7—followed by an epic struggle between the regulars and red-hots to refashion the party. And make no mistake: A loss is what the GOP’s political class now expects. “Six months before this thing got going, every Republican I know was saying, ‘We’re gonna win, we’re gonna beat Obama,’ ” says former Reagan strategist Ed Rollins. “Now even those who’ve endorsed Romney say, ‘My God, what a fucking mess.’ ”
